Distinctive Cabinetry of the High Country

Distinctive Cabinetry of the High Country has over 75 years of combined experience in cabinet design, installation, construction and project management, and customer service. The company began in 2002 when Pat and Dave Parks moved to the High Country from Statesville, NC. Their previously owned business for 35 years prepared them well for a high level of skill and devoted service to clients. In 2005, daughter-in-law Leah Parks joined as Lead Designer and son John Parks as Project Manager and Graphics Manager.

In 2013, John and Leah assumed majority ownership of Distinctive Cabinetry of the High Country and opened a new showroom in Grandfather Center, Tynecastle area of Banner Elk, NC. Their previous experience serves to enhance the company’s customer service and quality control.

Meet The New Owners – John and Leah Parks

In November 2013, John and Leah formed a new company, Distinctive Cabinetry of the High Country and opened a new showroom in the Grandfather Center in the Tynecastle area of Banner Elk, North Carolina. Leah brings more than eight years of experience to the new company as well as a hard earned certification as an Associate Kitchen and Bath Designer. This prestigious certification is awarded by the National Kitchen and Bath Association in recognition of years of design experience, hours of classroom education, and rigorous testing. This is important to their clients because Distinctive Cabinetry of the High Country is the only cabinetry design studio in the area with a designer as well trained in current trends and innovations in kitchen design. John’s years of experience as co-designer and project manager enhances the new company’s customer service and quality control.

Leah Parks has the distinction of Associate Kitchen and Bath Designer as awarded by the National Kitchen and Bath Association in recognition of years of design experience, hours of classroom training, and vigorous testing. This is important to our clients to have a qualified designer well trained in current trends and innovations in Kitchen and Bath design.

Business Manager Jill Privott joined the company in 2018. Jill brings with her 13 years interior design experience in residential and commercial construction. She has a strong personalized customer service skillset which is beneficial and supportive in our industry.

Project Manager and Designer David Weatherman joined in 2019. David brings over 15 years of project management in both residential construction and kitchen and bath projects. His attention to detail and in-depth project oversight provides a valuable resource for the company.

What to Expect

We have developed a four-step system to ease the design process, to include:


A free initial consultation with one of our designers.


The designer creates a preliminary design at no charge. Your dream takes shape in 3D color and you will visually be able to walk through your room.


The designer will guide you through the choices in cabinet style, color, finishes, spatial planning, hardware and accessories, and integrating countertop and appliance choices.


We will assist in developing a realistic budget for your project.

We are capable of providing detailed floor plans and elevations for your contractor and subcontractors. These plans include appliance, electrical and plumbing locations. We will work closely with your contractor to schedule and manage installation of your cabinetry to insure a smooth work flow and timely completion.
