Our Story

The Design Team at Distinctive Cabinetry of the High Country in Banner Elk, NC

Distinctive Cabinetry of the High Country began as Distinctive Cabinetry and Design in 2002 when Dave and Pat Parks moved to the high country from Statesville, NC. Previously, they had owned and operated the Animal Hospital of Statesville for 35 years. While this path to the kitchen and bath cabinetry business was s a bit unique, it was a path that prepared them well. Their veterinary clients and their pets needed close, personal care, a high level of skill and devoted service. That same commitment to competence, integrity and individual attention continued to be the basis of their business philosophy. In 2005, daughter-in-law Leah Parks resigned her position as a vice-president with Bank of America and joined Pat and Dave as a designer. Son John Parks came aboard in 2006 as a project manager and advanced graphics manager.  Our design team at Distinctive Cabinetry has a large customer base of satisfied customers centered around Boone, Banner Elk, Blowing Rock, and Linville, Sugar Mountain and Beech Mountain, North Carolina.

In November 2013, John and Leah formed a new company, Distinctive Cabinetry of the High Country and opened a new showroom in the Grandfather Center in the Tynecastle area of Banner Elk. Leah brings more than eight years of experience to the new company as well as a hard earned certification as an Associate Kitchen and Bath Designer. This prestigious certification is awarded by the National Kitchen and Bath Association in recognition of years of design experience, hours of classroom education, and rigorous testing. This is important to their clients because Distinctive Cabinetry of the High Country is the only cabinetry design studio in the area with a designer as well trained in current trends and innovations in kitchen design. John’s years of experience as co-designer and project manager enhances the new company’s customer service and quality control. Pat and Dave still provide support to the new company as part-time consultants and designers.
